Xan G
I'm a film director and writer with 750+ hours of mentoring experience.
Education
Oxford University - History
Bio
I grew up in New York, Jerusalem, Dakar and Belgrade, and went to boarding school at The Dragon and Eton College. After a year learning Mandarin and travelling in China, I studied History at Oxford University, where I won a scholarship for my Distinction in Prelims and graduated with a First-class degree.
Since 2019 I've been working as an academic mentor and filmmaker. My award-winning films include mythic fantasies, psychological thrillers, sci-fi music videos, and documentaries about refugee migration on Lesvos and tree conservation in Kenya. And I've provided over 750 hours of mentoring along the way.
Approach
I focus on developing creativity, confidence, and self-motivated learning in a wide variety of students, ranging from 10 year-olds writing ghost stories to 22 year-olds applying to film schools. I also cover exam technique for the 11+ and beyond.
What parents say
'Xan is such an inspirational and excellent teacher for my daughter. We have learnt a lot not only by attending his class, which is always well-developed and interesting, but also from him personally through his characters and kind heart and broad mind. In addition, he is quite open to our ideas and easy to communicate with. We definitely recommend him!' Nancy, parent of 11 year-old, February 2021.
'I am so happy to have found such an amazing mentor who inspires my daughter to write and read in her own time.' Lily, parent of 10 year-old, October 2020.
